1. Daylesford Organic Farm Shop near Kingham, Oxfordshire

A post shared by Daylesford Organic (@daylesfordfarm)

Let’s begin with the really obvious one, shall we? Daylesford is one of the best loved organic farm shops in the Cotswolds – some say the UK – known for its commitment to sustainability and working closely with nature.

Located near the popular Cotswold village of Kingham, you’ll find plenty to choose from, including deli foods, stunning ready cooked meals, artisan bread, fine wines, 5-star hampers, homeware and much more.

Daylesford’s mouth-watering organic produce is exceptional and it’s all superbly presented. For many visiting the shop this is a once in a year opportunity. Prices are known to be high but in Daylesford’s defence it costs a lot more to produce organic food as good as this!

The immaculate shop, set in the glorious Oxfordshire countryside, is housed inside a very impressive building with a great vibe. You won’t find yourself rushed at all, in fact it’s all beautifully calming and serene.

If you want to experience a real shopping treat in the 22nd Century, in a heavenly piece of the Cotswolds, then Daylesford is definitely worth a visit.

2. Diddly Squat Farm Shop, South East of Chipping Norton

Love him, loathe him… yet Jeremy Clarkson has poured his soul into getting Diddly Squat on the map and he’s done a pretty decent job of it so far! Close to the Cotswold village of Chadlington and town of Chipping Norton, there aren’t many signs pointing it out so you’ll need some good map reading skills to reach it.  For those that can fly, you can aviate in and land at Enstone Airfield nearby then grab a taxi (or a Cotswold limo). 😉

On arrival, you’ll usually find a lengthy queue leading up to the farm shop site and then have to grab a space in their small car park. We recommend you bring some wellies, the car park isn’t well surfaced and most of the time you’re driving and walking across clay mud, which (trust us) sticks to everything. Ho-hum, you’re getting the true countryside experience then!

Jeremy’s shop is not big, in fact some of our team might say that our MD’s garden shed is bigger, but once inside you’ll find a warm welcome from his crew and a reasonable amount of local farm produce you can buy and take home with you. Don’t expect to see the man himself though, he sadly doesn’t operate the tills. Towards the rear of Jeremy’s shed, I mean shop, you’ll find a bar which we noted sells some absolutely cracking Cotswold cider.

If you enjoy watching Clarkson on the telly then you’ll probably appreciate Diddly Squat, if not, then you may find his “Bee Juice” (yes, it’s honey) or “Moo Juice” (hmmm… it’s milk) not so incredibly clever or indeed that funny. We’re of a mixed opinion here at Orion HQ… and on that bombshell…

3. The Organic Farm Shop at Abbey Home Farm, North East of Cirencester

Located on the B4425 road to Bibury, just outside Cirencester, you’ll find The Organic Farm Shop where (funnily enough) you’ll find everything that’s on sale is organically and/or ethically produced!

The area the farm resides in has provided evidence of farming as far back as Neolithic times, so it has a huge agricultural heritage.

They stock real honest food including meat raised and butchered on their farm and organic vegetables, grown totally chemical free in their 15-acre market garden. The team take great pride in minimising the use of plastic and packaging – so you might want to bring your own bags.

The rustic yet colourful farm shop also stocks clothing from India (stunning dressing gowns that have to be seen) as well as other ethically sourced items that you can buy for yourself or as gifts.

If you’re looking for a much-needed escape from the hum drum of a modern supermarket and eat food that looks as good as it tastes, then the Organic Farm Shop is definitely for you. A wonderful (though somewhat hidden) Cotswold treasure!

4. Upton Smokery Farm Shop near Burford

If you travel further up the B4435 passing through the beautiful villages of Barnsley and Bibury, you’ll eventually find the Upton Smokery Farm Shop, sitting close to the A40 and near to the Cotswold town of Burford. In our opinion it’s well worth the trip!

A family run business, the smokery specialises in selling beautifully smoked meats, fish and cheese as well a wide range of locally sourced organic foods and some interesting wines too.

If you’re looking for a unique shopping experience with an eclectic and varied mix of smoked produce then you’ll love this gem of farm shop set in the stunning Cotswold countryside!

5. Cotswold Barn near Moreton in Marsh

A post shared by Cotswold Barn (@cotswold_barn)

Owned by Joanne Williams, the Cotswold Barn is found on the Broadway to Stow-on-the-Wold road. Previously known as the Cotswold Farm Store, it has recently rebranded to the “Cotswold Barn”, which is now mainly a gorgeous café and gift shop. You’ll still be able to buy local farm produce from its deli, but you may find it better serves you as a pit-stop for when you’re out and about exploring the Cotswolds.

If you’re a “petrolhead” then you might be lucky enough to be able to attend a variety of classic and supercar events they hold on the 1st Sunday of every month – gates are opened at 9am.

Cotswold Barn offers a lovely refuge away from the maddening crowds of the Cotswold towns when it’s impossible to park in them on a busy summer day! With plenty of parking there it’s always easy to pull in and find a space, so do visit, we know you won’t be disappointed.

Visitors will also enjoy stunning panoramic Cotswold views so don’t forget to bring your camera.

6. Vegetable Matters near Chipping Camden

No packaging, minimal food miles – Vegetable Matters is a guilt free farm shopping experience at its finest!

Opened by the Drinkwater family – a well-known family of vegetable growers in the Cotswolds – in July 2017 you’ll find their cracking one stop farm shop tucked away in the village of Ebrington, not too far from Chipping Camden. Popular with locals and holidaymakers alike, Vegetable Matters also offers a superb selection of locally produced produce – from bread and meats (courtesy of R & D Walker butchers) to honey, oils and salad dressings. There’s so much on offer and it’s all sourced as locally as possible.

During the summer months on selected days – you’ll want to ring in advance to find out when – an ice cream van pays a visit which is always popular with the kids!

7. Wotton Farm Shop near Wotton Under Edge

Slightly further afield from us, over by the town of Wotton Under Edge – a small Cotswold town that’s worth a nose – is Wotton Farm Shop. Beloved by locals and full of charm and character, the shop sells a wide range of locally grown seasonal produce. As you enter the premises, you’ll find yourself in a locally made oak portico which looks small and then you’ll get a very pleasant surprise as it is so much bigger as you delve further inside. This farm shop is very much a Tardis!

We always find reasonably priced eco-friendly food that changes with the seasons as well as on-site butchers selling beautifully tasting bacon, sausages and pies. If you take a nose in their freezer section you’ll find some tasty frozen ready meals, usually on offer, to tempt you to spend more.

For cheese aficionados there’s a cheese counter you’ll just love! They offer a huge range of cheeses in ready cut sizes or to a size you want – you only have to ask. Also, if you’re not sure which cheese to buy they’re more than happy for you to try before you buy so you can take the right one away with you.

Vegans will also be spoilt for choice with vegan cakes, vegan cheese and more, plus for the green fingered amongst you there’s a lovely nursery selling indoor plants to hanging baskets to impress the neighbours!

After all that shopping you can then take a seat in their quirky cosy café with its own very individual country style and enjoy a refreshing coffee. Wotton Farm Shop is a total Cotswolds gem that offers a great experience in a friendly atmosphere with exemplary service.

Gets our MD’s vote!

8. Tortworth Farm Shop near Charfield

You’d think many of the locals have been keeping this lovely little farm shop a total secret from the rest of us for years! It’s nestled in a really peaceful location with stunning views of Nibley Monument and the Cotswold Edge, fairly close to the large village of Charfield on the western side of the Cotswolds.

Take it from us you’ll want to get there early, Tortworth Farm Shop and its café gets incredibly busy with families as well as groups of local cyclists looking for refreshments, so be warned.

On arrival you’ll find a well surfaced and large car park with a path up to the well-stocked farm shop, plus the kids will love the duckpond too. In perfect surroundings and an amazing cheerful team keen to help, you’ll be in just the right place!

Whilst there we thoroughly recommend buying their scrumptious Tortworth Pasties – made using home reared steak from their farm – trust us, they’re to die for.

9. Frocester Fayre Farm Shop near Stonehouse

Way off the beaten track for most of us over near Cirencester and just northeast of deepest, darkest Dursley (and Cam), you’ll find, in our opinion, one of the best farm shops in the Cotswolds. Set on a working farm close to Frocester and opened in December 2000, it’s a small farm shop with its own licenced butchery and kitchen. First impressions outside don’t give off a great vibe but (seriously) don’t let its rough exterior put you off.

All their hung meat (beef for three weeks and pork and lamb for one week) is reared at the farm or locally to keep “food miles” down to a minimum and also helps keep their prices to be really affordable.

Burgers, sausages and perfect pies are made on site in the farm shop’s own kitchen. We love their BBQ collection sets, absolutely perfect for an unforgettable barbecue back at your Cotswold holiday accommodation! Pork and apple burgers anyone?

You’ll also find a range of other products including vegetables, dairy and more.

Take it from us, avoid Waitrose, Aldi or the like and get yourself over to Frocester Fayre Farm shop, we promise you it’s worth the trip!

10. Jolly Nice Farm Shop near Stroud

Just up the road from our office, outside the stunning Cotswold village of Frampton Mansell, you’ll find the award winning Jolly Nice Farm Shop. It’s a place that really does “what it says on the tin”  and it really is just “jolly nice”!

Their motto is “Farm, Food, Sustainability, Life” and that certainly shows in the quality of the produce they have in stock.

You’ll find beautifully displayed fresh seasonal fruit, veg and dairy product as well as genuinely free-range meat reared locally.

What was once a dilapidated and unloved Texaco petrol station has been transformed into a modern roadside farm shop and child friendly café. You’ll find plenty of parking, clean toilets, countryside views AND a thoroughly unique drive-through selling melt in the mouth organic burgers and ice creams like you’ve never tasted before.

Easy to find as it sits on the A419 main road, we’ve always felt it’s like a mini-Daylesford and that absolutely makes it worth a stop on your travels around the Cotswolds.

11) Jesse Smith Farm Shop in Cirencester

You wouldn’t expect to find a Cotswold farm shop plonked in the middle of a Cirencester industrial estate, but Jesse Smith have gone and exactly done just that!

Brave move?

Well, we think so, but what they lack in location they absolutely make up for in quality AND incredible value for money. If you’re a serious carnivore, then we recommend you make a beeline straight there to buy their Signature Beef. In fact, their farm shop is so good we think you’ll make multiple visits during your Cotswold Water Park holiday.

You’ll also find over 100 different cheeses on offer too as well as regular new foodie treats for you to taste test in store.

It’s one of Cirencester’s “hidden gems” and let’s hope it stays that way! 😉

12. The Cotswold Guy in Guiting Power, East of Cheltenham

A post shared by The Cotswold Guy (@thecotswoldguy)

Our first impressions when seeing the truly scrumptious luxury Wellington – “starting” from £120 – was that produce from the Cotswold Guy is possibly a bit out of our league? But when we browsed this Cotswold farm shop further, we were pleased to find a lot more produce at affordable prices – including a beautifully marinaded butterfly chicken which comes in at just £20.

Not that high prices should have surprised us; The Cotswold Guy truly believes that great food starts with the best ingredients and that level of quality should never come “cheap””.

The Cotswold Guy is also worth visiting just to sample the delights of the village of Guiting Power, which sits in a stunning area of the Cotswolds (that’s not visited by that many people as everyone tends to head towards the Slaughters).

13. Gloucester Services Farm Shop, North & South Services on the M5

Have we left the most unique Cotswolds farm shop till last?

Maybe, but who would expect to find a gorgeous farm shop inside a British service station? Not us!

Don’t be put off by the thought of it, both service stations (one Northbound and one Southbound) are beautifully designed, light and modern and the local farm produce they supply is so, so good. You’ll be spoilt for choice as they work with over 130 local food and drink producers within 30 miles, so they really  are “supporting local”. There are many options for vegans too as well as a comprehensive desserts section to completely spoil your taste buds.

We’ve always found their friendly shop staff to treat customers well and making them feel special does help on a long drive.

You have to ask why can’t more service stations be of this quality?

We find the prices to be fairly reasonable as farm shops go, though some people do complain the prices are exorbitant, but then you’re on the motorway and you’re a captive audience. We don’t know of any other service station that doesn’t mark up their prices, in comparison to other shops located away from motorways. Yet you still get the utmost quality at Gloucester Services Farm Shop, not just “junk food” that you seem to get at any other UK motorway pit-stop. This makes it a great destination in its own right.

One of a kind? We think so, it’s always a pleasure to stop and shop there in our experience. One thing to note: parking is free for the first 3 hours and then £12 (so we recommend you don’t lose track of time!)

After you’ve shopped till you drop, you might want to take a break and relax, so check out some of the best Cotswolds pubs we know.

We trust you’ve found this list of the best Cotswold farm shops to be useful but if you know of any other farm shop in the area that is just dying to be included on our list please do get in touch!
