Summer 2019 – What’s On?


A year in the Cotswolds is packed with events for people of all ages, but if you’re not familiar with the Cotswolds, you won’t know what this picturesque part of the country has to offer you. With events ranging from the famed Cheltenham Literature Festival to the Tetbury Wool Sack Races, the Cotswolds has something for all. Head to the Wilderness Festival, a popular and major music event for the area. There’s also the Big Festival for foodies out there, and for everyone else, there’s a jam-packed events calendar that features music, exhibitions, art festivals, literary festivals and theatrical productions.

June 2019

Cheltenham Science Festival, Cheltenham. 4-9th June 2019. You and the family can enjoy learning about everything in the science world, from why chocolate tastes so great to what makes the world turn. Some of the greatest thinkers in science are going to be there answering the big questions!

Forest Live, Westonbirt Arboretum. 13-16th June 2019. Concerts renowned for an informal and relaxed atmosphere, Forest Live is hosting some big names in 2019 such as Jack Savoretti and Paul Weller. Enjoy music in a different way this summer.

Cheltenham Food & Drink Festival, Montpellier Gardens. 14-16th June 2019. Enjoy Chefs Kitchen Theatre, live music and street theatre and food and drink talks covering a range of subjects. You get five days to enjoy this one in the Cotswolds.

July 2019

Royal International Air Tattoo, RAF Fairford. 19-21st July 2019. Intensity, drama and a spectacle beyond anything you’ve ever seen is on offer at this wonder of a show. Unique flypasts, display highlights and plenty of ooh’s and aah’s for the whole family.

Tewkesbury Medieval Festival, Tewkesbury Town Centre. 2019 dates TBC. Get stuck into the history surrounding the battle of Tewkesbury and learn the origins of the festival, buy full armour or head to the cooking range while you enjoy minstrels, jugglers and stilt walkers.

Stratford-upon-Avon River Festival, Stratford-upon-Avon. 6-7th July 2019. For two whole days in the Cotswolds summer, the riverside comes to life and there are free events and activities for all. Come and explore the stalls on your staycation and make your summer stand out.

August 2019

Teddy Bear Tuesdays – GWSR. All Tuesdays in August 2019. Ride the Teddy Bear railcar and join the Teddy Bears at Winchcombe Station. Get the kids to bring their own teddy bear with them, and you get a great, fun day out every Tuesday in August. There’s no need to book this fab event, and you can catch the train at Broadway, Toddington, Winchcombe or Cheltenham Race Course stations. Here’s what you get:

  • A free Railway fun activity book and crayons during the trip.
  • A quiz free for the children to complete – collect at the office
  • A free leaflet for the not so young, detailing the Heritage Trail at Toddington Station
  • You can buy a genuine I-Spy book for the Railway for £2!

Bring a picnic along and watch the magic with the children.

Gloucestershire Vintage and Country Extravaganza, South Cerney Airfield. 2-4th August 2019. You’ll see the Stroud Vintage Transport and Engine Club stage the Annual Gloucestershire Vintage and Country Extravaganza in 2019. One of the biggest and the best steam, vintage and countryside events in the UK, attracting thousands of exhibitors from across the country.

Wilderness Festival, Cornbury Park. 1-4th August 2019. A boutique music festival taking place in Cornbury Park for 2019, you will find a unique, easy-going programme of music, theatre and art along with comedy and amazing food and drink. You can camp here, and you will be in a secluded natural setting where you can spot eccentric theatre, paddle yoga and talks and debates. It’s a sight not to be missed in summer 2019.
